Annual Meeting - October 12, 2006

Hello, Neighbors…

We had a terrific turnout at our meeting last Thursday night. And, thanks to Debbie Helwig, we had some tasty cake treats too. Here’s some of the things we discussed and voted on.

First of all, Officers (including yours truly) were re-elected for a second year term. However, our friendly, hard working Treasurer, Richard Ricketts, asked me to see if anyone else could take over his duties for the next year as he is very busy these days (though he offered to stay on if no one volunteers). So, if you’re handy with financial bookkeeping, please step up and let me know if you’ll take over. I agreed to stay on as long as volunteer support continued to grow like it has (for managing the events on our calendar, as well as communication to our neighbors). Therefore, I strongly urged volunteering as new Street Captains so we could do a census for updating our Directory and distribute flyers announcing activities and meetings. Several new Captains committed, but we still need some volunteers for the following street sections (Without Captain Names – the previous Captains are listed in parenthesis, who may recommit). Please let me know ASAP if you will volunteer as a Street Captain:

Also, Carl Jordan, our resident County Commissioner, spoke to us about several issues including the fact that we are now part of the ACC Neighborhood Association List. Any emails that are released will be sent to me and I will forward them to you through our Kingswood List.

The Treasurer’s report showed that we have $1351.21 in our corporate checking account and our savings account has $1663.99 as of October 12, 2006. We also took in $575 in association dues for 2006 and most for 2007. We also voted to place an urgency on acquiring the $25 annual dues from ALL homeowners from this time forward (we have not kept perfect records of those who have or have not paid dues for 2006 – if you haven’t paid yet, please let me know). Going forward, though, if you don’t pay your dues for 2007 by March 31st, you will be invoiced and “kindly reminded” to do so. Following is one special reason why...

We voted to hire Masters Lawncare to maintain all three of our entrances, including edging trimming, raking, pine straw upkeep, etc. PLUS, we authorized the owner, Jason Mink, to remove the bushes in the center area of each side of the center-monuments and plant flowers suitable to the seasons twice a year. They will even mow the grass between Highland and Avalon, along Timothy Rd., if the county is slow to do it. So, look for a new look and neat servicing in the very new future. In that we were given a pretty nice deal, we agreed to make Masters Lawncare our “Official Neighborhood Landscaper.” So, if you ever need any lawn care service, please call Jason at 706-248-1037.

Some other news includes dates on which we all agreed: HOLIDAY DECORATING of all three entrances - Volunteers will meet on Saturday, November 18th in order to have our “festive” look displayed before the Thanksgiving holiday; HOLIDAY TREATS – for our area police and fire personnel - we are only going to solicit cookies and cakes for the Christmas holiday (the week before) rather than before Thanksgiving as well, like we did last year (a lot of work for volunteers); HOLIDAY CAROLING – we voted on getting together the Saturday before Christmas day, Dec. 23rd, from 7-8PM (folks, we had over 30 carolers last year, and it was a blast!); and, finally, our SPRING PICNIC will remain on the first Saturday of May each year (May 5th, 2007). MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

That’s about all we covered. It sure was nice to greet so many friendly faces, especially many of our newest neighbors who were gladly welcomed with intros and hellos. I’ve receive several comments that folks had a really fine time. I will update the web site with this report soon, to let newcomers know how and what we’re doing.

Take care, and enjoy this beautiful autumn.
